As winter sets in, it's more likely that we'll be seeing gray skies instead of blue, and some form of precipitation more often than in warmer times. While that may change somewhat with the geographic region in which you live, generally speaking, winter is not quite so colorful as the other seasons. Often, that spills over into our outlook, as studies of the Northwest coast of the US have shown, promoting pessimism and depression over confidence and optimism. When that attitude invades the business, it is extremely difficult to make effective change when an economic downturn requires it.

That's the time when we as managers and leaders have to hone our presentation skills, so we can communicate clearly and effectively the changes we have to make and share the need for those changes. If we are able to do that, we can take advantage of the opportunities that every downturn presents, rather than focusing on the negative and succumbing to the loss of competitive advantage that results from someone else picking up the opportunities.

Presentation skills are simply an integral part of our communication skills, but they are critically important. We have to combine with them what we know about the people we are communicating with, so we can be as effective as possible. Too often, the problem with communications is not what is said (or otherwise communicated), it is all about how it is said. Use your presentation skills to get past the dreary gray skies and put a silver lining on every day.

Do you have questions about how this should happen? Contact us at Fory Group LLC to discuss how your presentations can gain the power you need!
